James 1:2-8

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

In John 16:33 Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” In order to have this peace we must be “in Christ.” If you have been born from above then you have full access to more peace than you will ever need! Wow, that is good news!

But having access to this peace doesn’t mean you will automatically enjoy it. And just because you have access to this peace does not mean that you will not experience any trouble. Jesus said as long as you are in this world there will be trouble. He goes on to say to be of good cheer. The Holy Spirit echo’s that through James when He said, “count it all joy when you experience various trials.

The testing of your faith will produce patience. But we must let patience have its complete work. When trouble comes we must stay steady. As soon as we recognize the trial we must be steady. Don’t let it shock you! Don’t allow any negative emotions take control of you. You take control of your emotions. How do we do this? By praising God! Put the Word of God that concerns your situation in your mouth.

Remember that patience is being consistently constant. It’s not being moved by what we see. Patience won’t let the circumstances dictate how we are going to act. We have to choose to let patience work. On purpose, we won’t be focused on the problem. We will look to Jesus who is the Author and Finisher of our faith. If we stay focused on the trial, it won’t take long before we start believing that the trial is bigger than our God. But the more you fix your gaze on God the smaller your trial becomes.

The benefit in doing this is we will become mature and complete, lacking nothing. I don’t know what you’re going through today, but I know that if you will let patience have its perfect work in you, you will lack nothing. You have all the power you need. If you’ve been born from above then the Holy Spirit lives on the inside of you! Greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world.

The Third Person of the Godhead lives on the inside of you. You have more power on the inside of you than you will ever be able to use in your whole lifetime. He has equipped you to handle anything and everything that crosses your path.

So, let patience work in you. Be still and know that God is right there in your situation. The presence of a problem is not an indication of the absence of God. He said He would never leave us or forsake us.
